All the news media trucks were up and active by 2 p.m. Pacific Time the afternoon of September 23. You could see many of the key media personnel moving around as they prepared to interview the stars of the coming Emmy Awards ceremony. It was hard to get a close up for photos - most were quite blurry, actually, so the most I can show is the large tent that had been up since the previous day. Although I did get to see the “roadies” from one of the bands unload equipment. The “roadies” don't count as "stars," so no pictures there either. Sorry to disappoint.

The Society for Clinical Data Management 2012 Annual Conference was off to a strong start at the opening reception. All the vendors were set up and ready to share their product offerings, while colleagues and customers busily caught up from the last time they met.

Each year, DIA holds an annual member meeting so that professionals across the industry can gather together personally to share innovative ideas to their daily challenges. DIA 2012 was held June 24-28 in Philadelphia PA and was the largest multidisciplinary event involved in the discovery, development and life cycle management of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and related health care products.

While many conferences struggle to attract enough qualified participants, Bio-IT World Conference & Expo is an example of a conference that continues to grow by leaps and bounds in terms of both conference events and the number of attendees. With 12 tracks, it covers the gamut of how technology helps to leverage data, all in the name of transforming medicine. It is especially of interest to Liaison how these organizations are moving forward to figure out how to take advantage of the vast amount of information available to them, something that, for the most part, been stovepipe and neglected. Sessions on cloud computing and HIT solutions for personalized medicine and informatics were often standing room only and the keynote speaker required an “overflow” room for the first time.
